Abstract Text:Utah State University and The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research, in Houston, Texas, have recently collaborated on a series of online workshops for personnel at Independent Living Centers, and Statewide Independent Living Councils throughout the United States. WebCT was chosen for these workshops because of its superior ability to accommodate learners with disabilities. During the past year we've worked through a number of disability-related issues regarding WebCT. We've experienced some successes, but our experiences have also generated a number of important questions regarding WebCT and accessibility. At this roundtable we'll share our collective experiences and seek “best practice” solutions to several of the issues that have surfaced as a result of our efforts. Some topic areas we intent to explore include Section 508 compliance, optimum hardware and web browser combinations, WebCT course tools that offer the greatest ease of use for disabled learners, and third-party assistive technologies (hardware and software). We'll also demonstrate several computer techniques, configurations, and software applications that we feel have been helpful in enhancing WebCT accessibility to disabled learners.
