Abstract Text:Group project assignments can often turn into an unfair and inequitable arrangement as a few students tend to carry the workload of the many. Motivated students do the bulk of the work while the less motivated skate along by exerting as little effort as possible. This too often results in marginal projects that fail to reflect the best possible efforts of all group members.

In a traditional on ground course it can be difficult to ferret out the performers from the skaters.

Introduce online technology, multiple deliverables with specific due dates, assignment tie-in and a critique system that operates in the clear for all students to see and it becomes almost impossible for any student to skate along.

This session demonstrates how faculty can effectively manage team/group research projects within WEBCT in the clear while ensuring maximum student participation and interest while simultaneously elevating the overall quality of all class projects.
