Description: | The Associates Degree in Nursing Program has the needs of over 16,000 students to consider. To meet the students' ever-growing needs and to keep them within the program, we have developed seven courses/programs. Each course builds upon the other to create a positive and creative learning experience. Our students have said, "Wow, I did it", and then continue with the program. |

Abstract Text: | Ever increasing numbers of nontraditional students enroll in associate degree in nursing programs. It is these students that drive the College's efforts to expand student access to educational technology, student retention and to create online learning networks for students. This presentation will discuss two asynchronous online courses/programs. The first program guides the student learning in the nursing care planning process while focusing the learner on the development of critical thinking skills. The second program assists the students in learning the content for nursing theory exams and orients them to the role of the student. The programs are both one-on-one and group programs that assist the student to identify their learning needs. Using WebCT, campus and vista editions, a cohort of students is guided through a series of scenarios and are asked to use their critical thinking skills to determine the how and whys and next steps. This faculty led learning approach helps the student to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and opportunities for improvement within their individual skill base. Feedback from both faculty and participating students is built into the program. A nursing faculty member responds to student postings, homework assignments and email questions regularly, and also encourages students to respond to and support each other. Students are requested to complete and online evaluation at the end of the program. Our goal is to continually refine these online offerings and develop additional online assistance to serve our students. |
