Abstract Text:Participants will have the opportunity to examine a template used for course creation. In addition, file managment templates, used both online and offline for document management, will be demonstrated. These templates were developed to take advantage of WebDAV capabilities of WebCT. The templates are universal in nature and can be used regardless of the course being developed. The Learning Guide represents the scaffold of the template. It assists the instructor in developing the instructional module and then guides the student through that module. Objectives include: 1) Describe the advantages and flexibility of template use 2) Describe the advantages of file management templates 3) Explain usefulness of the Learning Guide and 4) Ability to implement take home templates for file manager and Learning Guides. The scope of this session will be to enable participants to explore the advantages of template usage in three areas: course development, file management and student learning. Participants will see examples of WebCT courses using these templates and have the option of using these tools themselves. Methods during the session will include: Presentation, Audience participation Testimonials by experienced users and take home templates, Demonstrations and Handouts. Session Outcomes: Participants will: 1) obtain options for organized course design, 2) gain tools for organized file/document management, 3) use a structured framework for lesson guidelines and 4) gain resources needed to give students a clear guide to online courses. Recommendations to session participants will be to consider use of templates for course development, file management and student learning. These practices may be particularly helpful for late adopters and those who are ready to revise existing courses.
