Target Audience:Course Designers, System Administrators, Senior Administrators, E-learning Managers
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:In the Spring of 2005, Northern Arizona University decided to upgrade from WebCT Campus Edition 4.1 to Vista. A steering committee was formed that included technical staff, administration, faculty and instructional designers. By Fall 2005, almost 40 sections were being taught in Vista 3. NAU then decided to upgrade to Vista 4 by Spring 2006, when more than 500 sections were taught in Vista. By Fall 2006, every section of every class taught at NAU – almost 6,000 -- will have a Vista section.

In this interactive panel discussion, a selection of technical, administrative, training and support personnel from NAU will discuss their efforts – their successes, decisions and “teachable moments” – that made this ambitious conversion possible. These panelists will provide a broad overview of:

- Network and Database Considerations

- Integration with Peoplesoft SIS, LDAP and various Powerlinks

- Migration of Campus Edition courses to Vista

- Training of Faculty, E-Learning Project Managers and Instructional Designers, and Support Staff

- Administration of Course Shell Requests, Enrollment, and Multiple Servers

This panel discussion is recommended for those who are planning to upgrade to (or install a brand new implementation of) Vista or CE6, or who might simply be considering it. Find out from those who have been there and done that: What resources will you need? How much time will it take? How does migration work? What kind of training do you and your faculty need? How do you administer and support Vista once it is deployed? What “best practices” have been learned?

For those whose interest has been piqued, follow-up Showcase sessions will delve into much greater detail in the following areas:

- Technical Implementation

- Migration

- Training

- Administration and Support
