Abstract Text:The University of Ulster has established a strong reputation for its institutional e-learning systems and services, in particular the development of learner support services, pedagogic support for academic staff / course teams and the development of innovative e-learning systems and services, in particular, the integration of an effective library service within the online classroom. The availability of these centrally supported and developed tools and services have enabled course teams and academics to explore new pedagogical and androgogical approaches.

The University of Ulster has to date introduced some VLE role-specific support through the provision of generic resource lists for staff designing, facilitating and participating in online course areas. There exists however, a plethora of valuable student related data and subject / cohort related resources that could inform the enhancement of the learning process. These reflective tools, combined with intelligent searching of best practice / reusable content repositories and appropriate evaluative tools, provide an opportunity for valuable pedagogic support services to be embedded within, and informed by, the online classroom context.

This session will describe how UU is leveraging the WebCT on-line classroom space to inspire and support staff to adopt effective pedagogic approaches that impact on the learner experience and the opportunities that such an approach offers learners, staff and the institution.
