Detailed Description:Once content development of an online course is underway, the developer often loses the ability to change the vision. One solution is to first develop a Course Map. This session will focus on the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of Course Map creation. After the presentation, attendees will be able to describe the rationale behind each step of the Course Map development process as well as identify and use the methods and resources described during the session.
Presentation Format:Showcase

Abstract Text:Once content development of an online course is in full swing, the developer often loses the ability to easily track and change its overarching vision. One solution is to take the time to develop a Course Map before content development is underway. A Course Map is a step-by-step process that builds upon itself, beginning with identification of course goals and learning objectives and ending with the establishment of the final version of the assignments, assessments, and media objects. This can be both preparation for development and development itself in that, by writing down and analyzing these elements of the course before developing the content, the developer simultaneously defines its drive and detail. This process has proven to be effective in the development of both newly conceived courses and courses that are being re-purposed for use in an online format. Furthermore, the Course Map is a tool that is useful for both new and experienced online developers. This session will focus on the ‘why' and ‘how' of the steps, methods, and format involved in creating an effective Course Map. After the presentation, attendees will be able to describe the rationale behind each step of the Course Map development process as well as identify and use the methods and resources described during the session.
