Abstract Text:During the period between November 2004 and January 2005, West Virginia University implemented Vista on a full-scale basis at its main campus and regional campuses (Potomac State College of West Virginia University, WVU at Parkersburg, WVU Institute of Technology). Communication is imperative in any large-scale implementation; however, it is even more important when integrating multiple campuses into one course management system. This implementation consisted of migrating more than 800 course sections from WebCT Campus Edition to Vista.

The Vista Implementation Team developed a communication vehicle to distribute information across multiple campuses. West Virginia University has not only shared a large amount of crucial information with faculty, administrators and students, but requested that each Campus, College, School or Department appoint an E-Learning mentor to respond to faculty inquiries related to Vista as well as basic queries about getting started in e-learning.

The main objective of this presentation is to provide participants with information and recommendations for communication and collaboration strategies during a large-scale implementation.

During the presentation we will share the communication plan implemented to communicate with more than 500 instructors and 35,000 students. This plan entailed a range of items from communicating the status of migrated courses to responding to frequently asked questions. An Introduction to Vista training component was included in the plan and there were 237 individuals trained during the implementation period.

With the success of this communication plan, it relieved many of the uncertainties of faculty who were recalcitrant to transition from WebCT Campus Edition to Vista.
