Abstract Text:Under federal law (1793 Rehabilitation Act and 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act), students with print disabilities are entitled to the academic and intellectual resources of the nation's colleges and universities. Through accommodation, these important laws have evened the playing field, providing this population with access to all the possibilities that education can offer. For the University System of Georgia, this mandate presented an important challenge – the timely conversion of a diverse and complex array of printed materials into accessible and user-friendly formats. With a growing population of eligible students enrolled in most of the University System of Georgia's 34 institutions, it was time to explore more effective ways to produce and deliver alternative media. Technology was the answers and WebCT/Vista along with Premier Assistive Technology offered a vehicle to deliver online solutions for students with print disabilities who needed to access their course materials.

Join the presenters as they demonstrate The Alternative Text Model which has streamlined and improved the delivery of alternative media to all eligible students with disabilities system-wide.
