C-7: Retrieving Data from a WebCT Virtual Learning Center Using Respondus
Detailed Description:Tennessee State University requires all students to take the Rising Junior Exam. This is a measurement of various topics that would have been learned in the early years at the university. With the help of the AEAO Department, the students are taking practice exams on different topics and as a result of this, we are using the function Retrieving Reports for Quizzes/Surveys. Once an assessment has been identified the student is given additional tutoring.

Abstract Text:At Tennessee State University the university has required the Rising Junior Exam which is an exam that is given to all students before they start their junior year. This exam is to measure the various topics that students would have covered and learned in their freshmen and sophomore years at the university.

The AEAO (Academic Enrichment, Advisement and Orientation) came up with a concept about creating a Virtual Learning Center which is comprised of Mathematics, Reading, English and Study Skills. The students are taking practice exams on different topics which where created with Respondus. As a result of this we are using the function from Respondus of Retrieving Reports for Quizzes/Surveys to identify the assessments of the students. Once an assessment has been identified; than the Virtual Learning Center takes over and gives the student the additional tutoring that they will need in that subject area in order to succeed on the actual Rising Junior Exam.

WebCT can generate a variety of reports for quizzes and surveys. Respondus enhances these capabilities by retrieving reports from multiple locations in WebCT and consolidating them into a single page. Second, we are retrieving summary statistics for each quiz question in order to determine a students' weakness. Third, we are going to retrieve answer distributions for each question.

Since these reports are automatically saved to the hard drive, it is possible to view results offline or to archive the reports at the conclusion of a course.
