Detailed Description:This session will showcase how the Educational Technologies Division of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has evolved its training program during a 2-year implementation of WebCT Vista.
Presentation Format:Showcase
Topic:Empowering educators: Professional development models and methods
Target Audience:Academic Technology Directors, Course Designers, E-learning Managers
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:This session will benefit professionals who are involved in training faculty on how to integrate technology into their teaching. The University of Illinois at Urbana - a pioneer in the use of educational technologies – decided to adopt WebCT Vista as its flagship course management system in 2003. This meant that hundreds of faculty had to learn to use the new system. In the one plus year that has elapsed CITES Educational Technologies trained hundreds of faculty members on how to use WebCT Vista.

The transition period (from WebCT CE & BlackBoard to WebCT Vista) proved to be successful but quite challenging. Faculty needs, administrative interventions and university culture had to be balanced to produce the most efficient training outcome.

In our session we will examine how we planned and executed our training methods and how we adapted them to the ever-changing environment.
