G-12: WebCT Online Training: A Three-Step Model
Detailed Description:Faculty come to WebCT training with differing levels of technical knowledge, intentions, and many questions. At JHU, the model for training is a three-step, fully-online complement to our in-person training and contains: Orientation to WebCT, Requesting a Course Site, and Building your Course. Training is designed to be “just-in-time” while also allowing for the varied pace of users. It encourages faculty to work through training at the same time they are building their own courses.
Presentation Format:Showcase
Topic:Empowering educators: Professional development models and methods
Target Audience:Academic Technology Directors, Course Designers, E-learning Managers, Faculty and Other Instructors, System Administrators
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:When developing WebCT training for faculty, it's important to start with the faculty-members' needs. Johns Hopkins WebCT Online Training has been developed to address three specific faculty issues. -Faculty are usually too busy to attend eight hours of training -Training is usually too broad to meet the specific needs of faculty, and -Multi-divisional training and support is needed for a decentralized institution like Hopkins

To meet these needs, the online training was organized to: -be self-paced -modular (focused on specific tools) -contain relevant and timely activities -suggest relevant pedagogy, and WebCT best practices.
