Abstract Text: | With the advent of new licensure for teachers in the state of Ohio, the University of Akron's College of Education created a hybrid sequence for the Early Childhood Education major. This program consists of two courses-Integrated Primary Curriculum and Advanced Integrated Primary Curriculum. Previously offered as four separate courses, both new courses include teaching methods for mathematics, science, social studies, and technology applications. As up to four sections of each course are offered every semester, professors, part-time instructors, and a multimedia specialist collaborated to develop WebCT sites to enhance individual course offerings. In order to provide students maximum access to course resources, ensure consistency across multiple sections, and improve their own pedagogy, these professors and instructors continuously share with one another to grow course content and methods as well as individualize their own WebCT sites. This showcase session will offer tips for the collaborative building of online sites, resulting in both increased student engagement and faculty growth. It will demonstrate ways in which faculty can collaborate through WebCT to reduce individual workload, maximize the use of face-to-face class time, and enhance learning outcomes. Each presenter will share her background as it relates to this process and the ways in which they collaborate to support their teaching and achieve better learning outcomes. The presentation will use a PowerPoint presentation including before and after versions of WebCT sites, and a live demonstration of WebCT sites developed for the course sequence. It will conclude with interactive discussion of challenges and successes in such collaboration. The presentation will include a handout offering tips for successful implementation of these processes. | ||
