Abstract Text:Boston University's Office of Distance Learning works with faculty from across the university in the development and delivery of over 100 multi-media enhanced programs using Web CT Vista. Through the integration of a detailed upfront planning process, we have been able to partner effectively with our faculty and produce top quality courses that meet or exceed the university's standards for excellence. This has been achieved by the creation of a scalable set of tools that standardizes course development and delivery into a set of repeatable processes and frameworks. In turn, this has shortened the development cycle, streamlined delivery, and enhanced course quality and student satisfaction.

Results from this effort have been profound, and include the following:

· Enhanced ability to translate on-campus courses to online format · Faculty confidence in their ability to maintain control of the course content, yet present it in an online friendly format · Faster course development process · Ability for Office of Distance Education to respond to development requests in a more timely basis, strengthening faculty/administration partnerships

This session will illustrate our development methodology, highlighting our overall project management and course development processes. It will introduce our five phase deliverable-driven model, and showcase the tools and templates we use, such as course template, project plan, course map, classroom adaptive matrix, and assignment matrix. The presenters will also discuss Boston University's innovative online Facilitator training program, which effectively provides first time online educators with delivery guidelines as well as tools and techniques critical to online success.
