Our training program guides new online faculty and provides ongoing development for our existing faculty, addressing both the pedagogy and technology needed to be successful in an online environment. Experienced online faculty mentors facilitate this training at no additional cost to the school.

Target Audience:Academic Technology Directors, Course Designers, E-learning Managers, Faculty and Other Instructors, Institutional Research and Assessment Staff, Senior Administrators
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:The objective of this presentation is to enable participants to create an accessible faculty development program addressing both pedagogy and technology at no additional cost to the school. We will show that we have the same expectations in regards to quality teaching for our online faculty as we do for our campus faculty. The only variant is the focus of the development process.

Many of our faculty are located throughout the country and world. To accommodate our entire faculty, we offer various modes of faculty development: 1. Enhanced Online Pedagogy Faculty Development course: We will demonstrate the understanding of what a quality online faculty development course entails. The Distance Education Committee reviews and approves all the content. We archive all the information so it is accessible for the faculty for a life-time. This is enabling us to build an effective online pedagogy knowledge base. 2. Tutorials on the WebCT homepage: We will exhibit ideas and examples for instructional resources. 3. One-on-one sessions: We will demonstrate combinations that work well for faculty dissemination, depending on the University and resources that the participant currently have in place. A faculty development packet is distributed in this session to guide the process and allow the faculty member to have this information with them at all times while developing their own course

The participants will walk away with the understanding of how to establish administrative policies governing online faculty development in order to enhance an online program will be demonstrated. Participants may learn from the progression of our faculty development program and how we have developed the program ensuring quality teaching in both our adjuncts and our full-time faculty members.

My presentation will reflect the faculty development process and its concepts in detail.

The presentation will conclude with examples and ideas for ongoing faculty development.
