Abstract Text:University of Central Florida's IDL6543 (Interactive Distributed Learning for Technology-Mediated Course Delivery) is a non-credit course that models how to teach online. Since its inception in 1996, over 450 faculty members have successfully completed IDL6543. The course undergoes continuous redesign based upon feedback received through formative and summative evaluations. The Utilizing Online Library Resources lab has always been an essential element of IDL6543. Originally, this session was conducted as an instructor-led presentation comprised of two guest speakers, a reference librarian and a faculty member. Concerns over the process of teaching participants about online resources and library access for distance learners in a face-to-face on-campus lab environment prompted re-evaluation. A decision was made to transition the face-to-face lab session into a module within the online portion of IDL6543. This transition enabled faculty to emulate their students' online experience by accessing the module and library materials from home, providing real-world experiences that previously had only been discussed in the lab session. Presenters will outline the process used in the collaboration and development of the module, display the organization of the content and discuss how this project assists the faculty in complying with copyright laws when using copyrighted materials in online courses. Question and answer period and handouts will be provided.
