Abstract Text:Large scale implementations can involve teams of technical and business professionals, take up to 2 years to implement and cost institutions large sums of money. During November and December of 2004, West Virginia University successfully upgraded and implemented the university distance learning production systems from WebCT's Campus Edition to WebCT's VISTA product. This process consisted not only in the install of the products, but the integration of the SCT Banner systems as well as the migration of over 800 sections from the current production system, all within a very short time period.

The main objective of this presentation will be to explore the lessons learned at WVU and provide attendees with a wealth of information and recommendations when performing large scale VISTA implementations.

During the session we will review the necessary steps taken to assure a successful implementation. These steps include project plans, timelines, communication efforts, management commitment, resource needs, vendor assistance, security, testing and final implementation. In addition to the details of the VISTA implementation process, we will also discuss the steps, possible issues and resolutions when integrating SCT's Banner products with VISTA.
