Abstract Text:In this session, the presenter will showcase a dynamic online, college level course in intermediate Spanish and demonstrate the ways in which WebCT Tools have the potential to broaden cross-cultural knowledge, enhance students' acquisition of language proficiency, increase interactivity as well as peer collaboration, and make the overall online learning experience more enjoyable and fulfilling. The focus of the session will be on the Glossary, Student Homepages, and Student Presentations Tools, and it aims at identifying practical applications and activities for foreign language instruction. In addition, the audience will learn about a host of other interactive applications which can be used to enhance instruction and learning in the target language: puppets, games, puzzles, and slide shows. Participants will identify at least two methods for increasing peer collaboration along with practical ways to apply them; one or more types of interactive games; and the technical skills needed to maximize the capabilities of the Glossary Tool for foreign language instruction. ESL and English teachers, as well as instructors interested in world cultures, are encouraged to attend.
