Abstract Text:Conventional wisdom and research demonstrates the importance of follow-up for effective staff development. All too often this important aspect loses to scheduling conflicts, insufficient time and communication problems. This presentation looks at the use of WebCT as a follow-up and assessment tool in Teacher Quality Enhancement grant during 2004-2005.

The grant was a collaborative project involving faculty from the School of Arts and Sciences and the Education Unit of the Graduate School of Education and Professional Studies at Eastern Connecticut State University as well as Pfizer, Inc. professionals to provide Science and Mathematics content staff development for 5th & 6th grade teachers from six districts across eastern Connecticut. The project used WebCT as an integral part of the follow-up process. Teachers submitted materials for project assessment through WebCT. Threaded discussions allowed faculty and teachers to communicate throughout the grant and provided expert content support for integration of new content. Posted materials provided easy access to needed resources.
