E-3: Creating the Faculty Toolbelt
Detailed Description:As online instruction and the demand for web based resources in "traditional" classes increase, we want to explore how you create the faculty "toolbelt" to get instructors ready to build their course or materials. These tools can include software, templates, advice, hacks, tips, and more. We'll share our ideas. Come prepared to share your own!
Presentation Format:Roundtable
Topic:Empowering educators: Professional development models and methods
Target Audience:Academic Technology Directors, Course Designers, E-learning Managers, Faculty and Other Instructors, K-12 Educational Staff
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:With the increasing growth of online courses and web-enhanced courses, the staff of Educational Technology Services at Pellissippi State Technical Community College is always looking for ways to support the faculty using WebCT with new and innovative tools they can access. The faculty “toolbelt” is the approach we have taken to provide instructors with a selection of software, templates, pre-prepared information, tips and communications to make building classes and creating online course materials easier and more efficient. This session will provide an overview of the current contents of the faculty “toolbelt” at Pellissippi State along with the criteria used to select the tools. We will then move to a group discussion about the process of selecting supporting tools at other schools and institutions. The final part of the session will be a wishlist of tools that we would like to see as part of a future “toolbelt” for our faculty.
