| Detailed Description: | Small campuses face many challenges when opting to use WebCT as the platform for offering distance education courses. Lamar State College-Orange continues to face and work to overcome obstacles involving everything from policy setting to faculty training to student involvement. In this session, we will share our experiences as well as entertain questions about navigating the tricky waters surrounding WebCT on the small campus. | ||

| Abstract Text: | Lamar State College-Orange is a small, two-year college in the Texas State University System. With fewer than 2000 students per semester, about 50 full-time faculty members and one WebCT Administrator/trainer/webmaster, LSC-O met some challenges when first implementing WebCT in 1999. In the past six years, however, we've seen our course offerings and student enrollment grow at a rapid pace. We have discovered the necessity for implementing policies covering various aspects from training to course development. We have also developed student orientations in a move to enhance student success. We are continuing to enhance our faculty training program as we have discovered it to be lacking in strength and quality. During this roundtable discussion, we will offer a brief overview of the LSC-O WebCT background with an outline of broad topics to cover. We will encourage our audience to participate by asking questions, making observations, and offering suggestions. We hope that our WebCT odyssey can help other small colleges who may be experiencing the same difficulties that we have faced. | ||
