Description: | Vista services can be affected by failures at the OS, application or network level. Monitoring these components will establish a baseline representing normal operation, and help alert you to potential trouble before your clients report a problem. Monitoring the individual components helps to rapidly identify system bottlenecks, failures and optimize service availability. Monitoring of OS, network, Weblogic and Oracle for large enterprise installation of Vista are discussed. |

Abstract Text: | Vista is a complex application that can be affected by bottlenecks and intermittent problems at the OS, network and application layers. Effectively monitoring these components helps maintain a predictable quality of service, and can alert you to potential trouble before it impacts your system and clients. Sixty percent of the mean time to repair is identifying the cause of a problem. Accurate information on how the system is (or isn't) working will help you rapidly identify the source of the problem and correct it. This is especially important when you are running a learning management system in an enterprise setting. Objective monitoring metrics can help offset subjective observations which often lead to misconceptions about how the system is performing, and erroneous conclusions regarding needs or requirements of the system. Long term monitoring can provide important information on resource utilization, trends and predict future needs. Methods of monitoring the different components of the system will be examined, and examples of various monitoring tools will be discussed. |
