Abstract Text:In the spring of 2002 Pima Community College began a Post Baccalaureate teacher education program with two online courses and fifty students. Today, the online program offers at least twenty education courses each semester and has over a thousand students enrolled with a retention rate of eighty percent.

The presenters will describe how the program assessed the community's educational and workforce needs, identified current and future roadblocks, and responded to needs by developing and implementing an innovative fully online program.

The online courses also provide a template for the correlated classroom courses. The audience will see sample pages from online courses that demonstrate how course standardization, embedded electronic portfolios, and classroom practicum activities work in concert to reflect INTASC standards. They will learn how online courses are designed and delivered; how faculty is trained for online course instruction; and, how students have formed a learning community through the online courses.

The showcase will feature a PowerPoint presentation, a video, and handouts to illustrate the special features of Pima Community College's Post Baccalaureate Teacher Education Program. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions.
