Enhancing learning: a practical scenario-based approach

Detailed Description:How do we optimize the effectiveness and engagement of the learning experience? While we use technology to augment traditional tasks like presenting information and testing knowledge, research suggests that authentic learning requires contextualization, goals and challenging tasks, repeated practice, and targeted feedback. These elements have been hard to incorporate due to a wide variety of constraints. Recent attempts to use technology to bridge this gap, such as branching scenarios or simulations, have been well intentioned, but have several inherent limitations. In this talk we present a scenario approach that leverages some synergies of engagement and learning, and exploits some characteristics of learning situations, to suggest a successful and pragmatic solution.
