5: Maintaining Quality and Enhancing Student Learning in Tight Financial Times


Detailed Description:	The present and projected financial conditions of higher education are creating a very difficult environment for enhancing student learning and maintaining the quality work lives of faculty and staff. This presentation will focus on the question: "How can we enhance student learning and maintain or enhance the work lives of faculty and staff within the context of a climate of restricted financial resources?" The presentation will review the "muddling through" perspective that colleges and universities use to respond to their financial crises and how they might be better served by transforming the educational delivery system presently employed, as well as the organizational systems that maintain the present institutional arrangements.
