Abstract Text: | This session will demonstrate two different models for using WebCT in multi-section, hybrid language courses taught primarily by graduate teaching assistants and part time instructors. In the Elementary Spanish model, a master course site is created and then given to each instructor or GTA to upload and link to his or her class rolls. Thus, each GTA or instructor serves as Designer of his or her own site, and the Elementary Spanish Program Coordinator is added as a Co-Designer. This gives the GTAs and instructors the freedom to modify and customize certain elements of the course, but also contributes to overall consistency throughout all sections. In the Intermediate Spanish model, the course site is created, linked to the class rolls, and the instructors are added as TAs, but the Second Year Spanish Coordinator maintains all designer control. This ensures even more consistency by preventing instructor modification of the site. Additionally, instructors do not have to be trained to use WebCT and can still successfully teach the hybrid course. We will demonstrate WebCT sites using both models, highlight the many differences between the two, and mention some advantages and disadvantages of each model for program directors to consider. | ||
