Abstract Text: | Washington State University chose an Oracle system for the campus portal. We were using WebCT Campus Edition and had integrated campus authentication and student information system integration. We will discuss how the portal decision affected the way we handle technical, social, and customer support challenges. We will demonstrate our Oracle portal communicating via single sign on with WebCT Campus Edition and the portal feed for the “my classes” portlet back from WebCT Campus Edition to Oracle portal. We will describe the process of trying to move WebCT sign on from single application system to be integrated via the portal. The customer support implications of moving to single sign on and the technical aspects of the behind the scene communication will be discussed. The implementation of the subsequent communication of classes information from WebCT to an Oracle portlet we call “my classes” will be discussed. We will talk about the XML classes feed process. What impacts the implementation of a portal have on the campus online learning environment and the faculty who use the system will be highlighted. We will show the working version of the portal, single sign on, the WebCT “my classes” portlet, and the XML feed via live internet connection. This session will discuss the technical details as well as the campus communication and customer support aspects of implementing a campus portal. | ||
