F-12: System Architecture for an Enterprise Academic System

Detailed Description:A thoroughly considered architecture is the foundation to successful system deployment. This paper will define the architecture requirements for a multi-campus system deployment, including properly planning for issues such as administering a clustered environment, designing a network architecture, and estimating hardware requirements.
Presentation Format:Paper
Topic:Deploying enterprise e-learning: Strategies for success
Target Audience:System Administrators
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:This paper will detail the architecture choices made by Purdue University during the implementation of Vista 2.x. These choices have been influenced by the IT environment of Purdue, including the requirement to deploy the application across four campuses and tie the application to several different student information systems.

While there was an initial plan for the architecture, this plan was modified over time as issues arose during the deployment. Our experiences with the system have definitely had an impact on the initial architecture design.

Furthermore, ongoing changes in the systems supporting Vista (in terms of storage, backup, or data feeds) have also driven modifications to the preliminary architectural plans. This presentation will take into account how the enterprise can truly have an impact on enterprise systems.
