Abstract Text:Does your department seem more like an endless paper chase than a collegial, supportive, interactive group of professionals? For faculty who find it difficult to communicate with, share with, and support one another, WebCT can be an answer to the daily nightmare of e-mails, phone calls, and mailbox stuffing. This workshop provides an overview of how to manage a department more efficiently and effectively so that the members can receive important information in a timely manner and can share ideas among their colleagues without worrying about conflicting schedules. Specifically, workshop participants will learn how to set up a WebCT shell for departmental use, how to choose WebCT tools for maximum effectiveness, and how to organize materials. In addition to improving communication among faculty members, the workshop will also focus on supporting new faculty through mentor groups, providing a place for faculty teaching portfolios, and promoting collegiality.
