Detailed Description:This showcase demonstrates the use of student surveys and focus group interviews as tools for enhancing course development. Case studies from two engineering programs will be presented. Actual survey results and excerpts from focus group interviews will be shared, as well as changes that were made to the programs based on the feedback received.

Abstract Text:This showcase explores the methods and processes used by the University of New Mexico to evaluate web-based courses. Case studies will be presented to emphasize usefulness of methods. Methods and tools demonstrated in the presentation include the use of student surveys, and faculty focus group interviews.

The various forms of student surveys will be reviewed, including a pre-course, mid-course, and final course survey. Actual results from student surveys will be presented, along with the corresponding changes made to courses as a result of survey feedback. Examples will be shown of specific changes implemented based on student feedback.

Finally, the use of panel discussions and focus group interviews will be discussed. Video and audio clips from actual discussions will be demonstrated. A set of guidelines for getting the maximum out of these types of sessions will also be presented.
