Abstract Text:Broward Community College (BCC) has evolved an e-learning support and professional development program that empowers faculty by placing them at the core of all e-learning activities.

E-learning development begins when an interested faculty member completes certain professional development activities or demonstrates equivalent competencies. BCC's faculty development initiatives are planned and delivered by faculty members who are experienced e-learning instructors/developers.

After competing necessary professional development activities, new e-learning developers are paired with an e-learning faculty associate who mentors them through the course development, formative evaluation, and course delivery processes. E-learning associates share their experience and expertise with new developers to achieve positive course outcomes for both students and new e-learning faculty.

Broward Community College's E-Learning Associates act as an expert user/advisory group that evaluates the college's e-learning resources, communicates best practices to new developers, and makes recommendations regarding the college's E-learning support program and associated practices.

Through this faculty-centered process, e-learning innovations spread rapidly throughout the Broward Community College, lasting, cross-disciplinary relationships between faculty developers are formed, faculty innovators are recognized, adoption of e-learning delivery modalities is increased, and course quality and faculty satisfaction with support services are improved.
