The benefits of the new WebCT Vista platform, and the issues with moving to the new platform will be reviewed from a faculty member's perspective.
Presentation Format:Showcase
Topic:Enabling learning: Effective instructional practices and flexible design models
Target Audience:Course Designers, Faculty and Other Instructors
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:The course, Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility, is a required senior undergraduate course for strategy and general business majors in the College of Business Administration at the University of North Texas (UNT). Beginning in Spring 2003 the course was taught using a supplemental web site. In Spring 2004 the course was converted to a 70% online content course being taught in the WebCT Vista platform. This course is only one of a very small number of WebCT Vista courses being piloted at UNT to prepare the campus community for full conversion to Vista in Spring 2005.

This presentation will be given by the faculty member who has designed the course and is teaching it. The course will be shown online during the session and features of WebCT Vista will be highlighted, along with the approach taken to deliver course content with a combination of online and face content. Following the presentation of the course, the faculty member will give a PowerPoint presentation of "lessons learned" in teaching in WebCT Vista for the first time. This will include migration issues, student management issues, and tips. The last part of the session will be a discussion period where participants can either ask questions or share any perspectives they might have.
