Abstract Text:Marshall University began the transition to Vista during the Spring Semester 2003. The move to Vista is part of a statewide initiative supported by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. Marshall University is the first of three state institutions to begin the integration of Vista. This panel discussion will focus on five broad topic areas, including: institutional policy, learning system management, faculty perspectives, course design and transitioning students. The panel will discuss inter-institutional cooperation, university policy changes, and the structure of Marshall University’s Vista Implementation Committee. The committee consists of university administrators, learning system managers, and faculty, charged with developing a strategy to bring about the seamless integration of Vista into the Marshall University online learning community. The learning system management segment of the panel will discuss timelines for implementation, working with WebCT support, sustaining two delivery platforms (Campus Edition and Vista), maintaining communication with faculty and students, and course conversion issues. Several faculty members will participate in the panel. From the onset faculty were excited by the new capabilities exhibited by Vista. Faculty issues include learning management system support, developing a community of users, and piloting selected courses using VISTA. In addition, the panel will discuss course design as it relates to faculty development, delivery hierarchy, and transitioning students to the new format. Attendees of this presentation will be encouraged to interact with the administrators, faculty and staff from Marshall University as we discuss our transition to Vista.
