Abstract Text:In May 2002, the University System of Georgia (USG) began beta testing of WebCT Vista Beta Build 2 at Georgia State University. This beta project at Georgia State University has moved from a limited production pilot with Vista 1.2 in January 2003 to a fully clustered production model in January 2004. By the time of this conference, a second Vista production site will be in place at the University of Georgia. Eventually most of the states 34 public institutions will be hosted on one of these two sites. The technical infrastructure and administrative management of this project has proven to be an ongoing learning experience that continues to this day.

System reliability and redundancy are a high priority and many new technical skills, scripts, procedures, and policies had to be developed. Coordination of personnel and the complexity of two redundant Vista installs have created some unique issues. What were the successes and what was not so successful? What were the rationales behind the solutions chosen? What were some of the unanticipated issues that developed? What do we anticipate the future to bring as the project is scaled up to include the entire University System of Georgia?

The presenters will share these experiences, offer our solutions and discuss our technical plans for scaling WebCT Vista to meet our state’s needs.
