Abstract Text: | The Centre for Instructional Technologies and Development (CITD) at SAIT has developed a systematic approach to online curriculum development that facilitates improved quality, increased productivity and continuous improvement in all aspects of WebCT course development. This process creates the foundation of CITD’s ISO 9001 registration and is based on the ADDIE model, taking a collaborative team approach to WebCT course development. It balances out the need for increased productivity with the needs of SAIT’s academic community. Participants will review the development process and discover techniques for increasing productivity while maintaining or improving the instructional quality of courses. This development/business model ensures customer satisfaction and builds in evaluations leading to continuous improvement of the products and services provided by CITD. Participants will review SAIT’s “Guidelines for Developing Online Curriculum” that provides instructors and Subject Matter Experts with information and checklists for developing high-quality, online instructional material. They will also discuss SAIT’s "WebCT Course Development Guidelines" that were developed in consultation with various stakeholders across the campus. The Development Guidelines offers strategies for building courses that achieve the identified learning outcomes while providing maximum usability, consistent development standards and unique department or course branding. Participants will also look at some multimedia development tools and techniques, including html templates and cascading style sheets that have substantially decreased course production and maintenance costs. |
