Abstract Text:What better way to instruct faculty on how to make the most of WebCT, than to teach them through WebCT? Hillsborough Community College’s IT3 department delivers professional development to faculty via WebCT. Recognizing that work and personal commitments create demands not only on students’ time, but also college instructors’ lives, IT3 provides a flexible approach to professional development. By taking WebCT training as an online option, faculty are not limited to instruction that is offered on set days and times. They can access their professional development from any place in the world, at any time and with the resources of the Internet as support. IT3 currently offers two courses: WebCT Mid & Post-Term Blues, and WebCT Accessibility Issues. Several other courses are under development including: WebCT as a Supplement to Face-to-Face Teaching, Enhance WebCT Instruction with Multimedia, and Getting Off to a Good Start in Your WebCT Course. A demonstration and walk-through of completed courses will be presented focusing on the content and strategies employed in the various workshops. Through the use of a data projector and connection to IT3’s WebCT online workshops, IT3 presenters will reveal how HCC Faculty access assignments through their “Student” course, and complete assignments in their “Designer” course. Presenters will divulge how, in addition to teaching engagement concepts, this method allows faculty to immediately apply their learning and experiment with different WebCT tools while building or remodeling their course(s). Workshop objectives include: learning strategies for monitoring and encouraging progress, ideas and templates for online learning activities, utilizing surveys for feedback, grade tools, multimedia tips and time-savers.
