Abstract Text:Faculty development and continued support for WebCT-based courses is a critical component for a successful implementation. University faculty and Information Technology professionals are often perceived to be at cross-purposes, with each side striving for control during technology implementations. Learn how the University of Central Oklahoma overcame this obstacle and created a dynamic, collegial and collaborative faculty development model. Hear from both a live faculty member and an IT representative.

During the presentation, both sides will showcase and describe implementation experiences, best practices, instructional technology methodologies, and tips and tricks. The UCO faculty development academy will be highlighted, with emphasis placed upon the faculty member's perspective, and how IT or other academic technology support personnel can best serve faculty needs.

Some of the featured highlights will include:

- Pre-workshop on-line and self-paced learning modules, and how the faculty member rated this experience;

- Pairing faculty “buddies” from diverse colleges and programs and whether this was a successful networking scheme;

- Ideas on how to entice faculty to apply for training programs, and how to create a competitive yet collegial environment;

- Ideas on how to convince faculty to change, enhance and adapt their teaching methodologies, and how to make them feel it was their idea to do so in the first place;

- Ideas on how to groom faculty mentors to expand the program beyond what one or two academic technologies staff can provide;

- Ideas on how to help faculty use technology tools to enhance student learning;

- Ideas on how to help faculty engage their students through interactive and pedagogically sound on-line content

- And much, much more!
