Abstract Text:The University System of Georgia provides the resources for building learning communities using WebCT Vista. These resources help to develop communication channels for teachers and learners. Teachers are provided with the tools to build a support system to mentor one another using discussions and journal writings. By making discussions an integral part of the teacher's professional development experience, teachers can share practical strategies for improving teaching and learning. These discussions become an integral part of the course and help the instructors build a support system that allows them to mentor one another. WebCT's flexible learning environment allows non-traditional learners to have access to a repository of tools to make online learning accessible. In addition, the environment provides assistive technology guidance and information to the USG institutional community.
