Abstract Text: | To realize Webster University's mission that includes promoting international perspectives in the curriculum and among students and faculty, both groups across all disciplines are encouraged to travel abroad to study or teach at its overseas campuses or other locations. In this session, faculty and course developers from various disciplines demonstrate how the hybridized online + international travel courses in WebCT enable graduate students to become involved in international travel experiences, even when their family or work obligations limit their available time. Recent courses to Austria, China, Switzerland and Thailand resulted in the development of some innovative and powerful instructional methods that may not be possible in either the online course format or the short term study tour format alone. For examples methods such as the following are illustrated in the session: (a) student-led debates, case-study analyses, and class presentations) at tour locations; (b) uses of cinema, web, and media resources for study of the target culture; and (c) student applications of international tour experiences to business or teaching situations. | ||
