Abstract Text:Concern is ongoing over the quality of education delivered online compared to the face to face environment. Questions pertain to student to student interaction, as well as student to instructor interaction. There is even concern that teaching does not take place in an online environment when compared to the lecture environment. Workloads and class sizes limit the potential for change and innovation in either delivery method. This workshop will provide a hands on example of an actual course that exceeds the interaction experienced in its face to face counter part and utilizes Chickering et al and Gagne's work while reflecting and considering different learning styles. Attendees will experience and engage in games to promote team membership and activity, and will work collaboratively to generate methods to engage students so that learning and retention is promoted. Brainstorming will include developing alternate assessment methods that can be successfully managed by the instructor together with delivery formats for lecture information. Utilizing all the tools that WebCT offers together with the Internet, attendees will experience a new perspective for online teaching and will leave the session enthused and more knowledgeable.
