Presentation Format:Showcase
Topic:Integrating the campus: Technical solutions and extended uses
Target Audience:System Administrators
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:Purdue University considers WebCT Vista to be one of a handful of mission critical systems on campus, and so the Enterprise Learning Technologies team, in cooperation with the IT Infrastructure group, has set up a Vista disaster recovery environment, located in a separate building from the production environment, so that the service can be continued in the event of an unrecoverable failure of the production environment. This presentation will outline the setup of the Oracle Data Guard database backup system, the installation of the disaster recovery Vista application, and the overall architecture of the disaster recovery environment. It will also discuss patching and testing the disaster recovery application, as well as the factors that affect the decision about whether or not to fail over and what would happen if a failover did take place. The final topic will be Purdue's long-term plan to remove the disaster recovery environment off of the West Lafayette Campus to one of the other Purdue Campuses.
