Abstract Text:With the popularity of hybrid and online courses, access requirements mandated by the American Disability Act (ADA) are in the forefront. Podcasting affords the flexibility to make instructional material available in audio format. Availability of instructional materials in audio format has the potential to level the playing field for students with learning and physical disabilities. The focus of the presentation, therefore, is to share information on the legal issues pertaining to web-based accessibility, specifically Sections 504 and 508 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. Demonstrate podcasting as a proactive alternative to meeting the needs of the physically and cognitively impaired student. Share strategies for preparing instructional materials in compliance with ADA requirements. Provide instructions to create Podcast and make it available using WebCT.

The intended outcome of the presentation is to Share information about laws relevant to Web-based education. Highlight the portability, accessibility, and learning implications of Podcasting. Initiate a dialogue among educators and administrators on integration of relevant and inexpensive technology to address student needs.

A PowerPoint presentation, and demonstration of two courses using Podcast as one of the strategy for improving access to instructional materials will be presented. In addition, step –by- step instructions for creating audio (MP3) and visual (MP4) files, as well as incorporating MP3 and MP4 files into WebCT courses will be provided. Recommended equipment, software and resource websites will also be shared.

Handouts will be provided during the presentation. Audience will also have access to the presentation materials on the Web. The Web address, and the contact information for both presenters will be included in the presentation handout.
