This session will describe the rationale behind the survey, the process of constructing the survey items, the pilot study, and the outcomes of the survey. A discussion of roadblocks and implications for other institutions will follow.

Abstract Text:Faculty at Texas A&M University have a variety of technology tools available for them to use in their teaching. Instructional Technology Services assists faculty in their efforts to incorporate these tools, which includes WebCT. Although TAMU faculty have been using WebCT since 1998, there has not been any empirical data collected on its campus-wide use. There was a need to determine what is being used and for what purpose for better investment and policies to be developed. A three-part confidential online survey was designed to collect the data. The questions were designed to elicit responses on faculty's choice of WebCT tools and their opinion on these tools. The survey also included open-ended sections to gather views on the various tools being surveyed. The survey was first administered to a pilot group to test its reliability, validity, and usability. Based on the feedback gathered, revisions were made and the online survey was sent to all faculty, staff, and students. This presentation will describe the rationale behind the survey, the process of constructing the survey items, the pilot study, and the result of the survey. Presenters will also discuss the roadblocks as well as implications for other institutions.
