Detailed Description:As technology has evolved, instructors at West Virginia University have continued to approach the Instructional Technology Resource Center (ITRC) with challenging instructional needs. ITRC instructional and web designers have created and implemented innovative instructional strategies to meet instructors’ specific requirements and needs. This session will demonstrate how online journals, 3-D models, case studies, Flash-based interactive image galleries, student-recorded audio clips, and reusable learning objects are now being used in WebCT Vista courses to enhance online learning.

Abstract Text:The purpose of this session is to introduce innovate instructional strategies that have been implemented by the instructional and multimedia web designers at West Virginia University's Instructional Technology Resource Center. We will discuss the challenging instructional needs that have been presented by faculty as well as the design solutions that have been developed and implemented to address these needs.

Specific Vista courses will be showcased to illustrate the following technology solutions: • Online journaling using ColdFusion in a State and Local Government course • 3-D modeling in a Building Birdhouses in Elementary Thematic Curriculum course and a Natural Remedy for Stress and Burnout course • Using case studies in a Hair Evaluation for the DNA Analyst course and a Personal Finance Planning course • Incorporating flash-based, interactive image galleries in an Historical Sacred Places course • Recording audio clips of student practice sessions which are submitted to the instructor in a Beginning Guitar course • Orienting students to online courses and training students on how to avoid plagiarism through the use of reusable learning objects

The presenters will discuss effective design strategies and engage participants in a dialogue of innovative approaches that have been implemented at various institutions. Finally, the use of pod casts to share effective instructional technology strategies with faculty and staff will be discussed.
