J-11: OOPs: How to Obtain, Organize, and Place Images in WebCT
Detailed Description:In this session, instructors will learn how to obtain images to use in their WebCT courses, organize them for efficient use, and place them into their courses for students to see – all without using complicated programs or equipment. Three primary ways to place imagery in WebCT will be shown, including links placed on Content Module pages, pictures available for direct use in the Image Database pages, and pictures embedded with text on Content pages.
Presentation Format:Panel
Topic:Enabling learning: Effective instructional practices and student support models
Target Audience:Course Designers, Faculty and Other Instructors, K-12 Educational Staff
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT
Abstract Text:Although obtaining, organizing and placing images into WebCT courses are not difficult things to do, most people either don't know how to do them well or don't know how to do them at all. This problem will be cured with a few simple bits of knowledge which enable instructors to produce dynamic WebCT pages.

We will demonstrate how to obtain images from the Internet to use in content module pages of WebCT. Reducing their size, resolution and preparing them for the Internet will be shown.

Organization means teachers will know where their imagery is being stored as well as shown. Teachers will learn how to keep images in the “Manage Files” folder and students will learn how to find images in the WebCT Image Data Base, as well as other locations within the website, including quizzes.

The three primary ways to place imagery in WebCT will be shown; Links, placed on content module pages directing students to images in external web sites; pictures available for direct use in the Image Data Base pages; and pictures embedded with text on Content pages.

Your home page does not need to be the only place in WebCT containing art. With the knowledge gained from this session your students will learn more, because you will be able to illustrate your lessons with everything from charts, graphs and maps to mathematic equations. This session is for everyone. No one is left out.
