Detailed Description: | Syracuse University’s Enhanced Online Pedagogy Faculty Development course has been used at more than 13 national/international universities. Come see a demonstration of the Online Pedagogy course and learn about design principles, learning modalities, and storyboarding techniques. This session will explore the online pedagogical training that faculty need to be successful in the online environment. Participants will walk away with tangible resources, as well as access to the archived Online Pedagogy course. | ||

Syracuse University School of Information Studies has been offering their nationally ranked degrees through distance learning for over 10 years. The faculty at the School of Information Studies not only publish, they are leaders in online pedagogy.
To accommodate our entire faculty, we offer various modes of faculty development which will be demonstrated in this presentation:
· Enhanced Online Pedagogy Faculty Development course – We will demonstrate the understanding what a quality online faculty development course entails. · Tutorials on the School of Information Studies WebCT homepage – Instructional resources to enhance the Distance Learning Program. · Pre-flight checklist – Provides a foundation for all School of Information Studies online course development. It provides a quick and easy overview of critical course elements and identifies eleven characteristics of effective, ‘transparent' courses.
Attendees will walk away with the tools and confidence to teach online.
This presentation will be geared to the following target audience: · This presentation can be a first step into online learning for faculty and/or instructional designers · This presentation would be beneficial to all faculty members that teach online and are interested in increasing their knowledge of online pedagogy
· Instructional designers that train faculty to teach online or who need to provide cost effective support to online faculty
Questions that will be answered during this presentation:
1. Online pedagogy – what is it?
2. Design principles – what are they?
3. Learning modalities – how can these be addresses in the online environment?
4. Faculty development – how do you teach faculty to teach online?
5. Cost – how can this be done at no additional cost to the school?
These are some questions that we are asked frequently. Come to find the answers. This presentation will reflect the faculty development process addressing online pedagogy, the technology, and its concepts in detail.
