Detailed Description:This session will address the technical procedures that were utilized by North Carolina State University and MCNC to develop an enterprise-level WebCT system. This will include a discussion of best practices implemented to ensure application performance, uptime, and redundancy. The panelists will also discuss why such a system was necessary, the technical steps taken in order to ensure the system's success, and future plans to improve the existing system.

Abstract Text:A step-by-step review of the technical tools assembled for the purpose of providing a reliable, redundant WebCT Vista system to several constituents of a large university system. The discussion will include a logical overview of the network, application and support infrastructure implemented at North Carolina State University and MCNC for use throughout the University of North Carolina system. This will be a largely technical presentation. It will start with network architecture including load balancer configuration and proceeding through application level configuration and monitoring, support and assessment polices. In this panel you can expect to get the following: - A detailed network diagram of the WebCT Vista system at North Carolina State University and MCNC that could be similarly duplicated at any large university. - An application-level overview of the WebCT Vista system and how it handles faults and fail-over. - A review of monitoring and notification best practices as developed at North Carolina State University and MCNC for the purpose of maintaining a reliable WebCT Vista Service. - An overview of the reporting and assessment policies in place used to monitor current and project future usage.
