E-8: Developing the Developers: Experiences from a WebCT Certified Trainers Community
Detailed Description:The WebCT Certified Trainer Program is a rigorous, three-week online course culminating in two days of face-to-face evaluations. What happens to WebCT trainers once they have been certified? In this session, a group of WebCT Certified Trainers will share their personal experiences. The instant camaraderie during the certification process inspired the creation of their own support community to continue the development of their WebCT knowledge.
Presentation Format:Roundtable
Topic:Empowering educators: Professional development models and methods
Target Audience:Course Designers, Faculty and Other Instructors, Senior Administrators, E-learning Managers, K-12 Educational Staff
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:This round table discussion will focus on a group of geographically disparate individuals who found knowledge, expertise, friendship and camaraderie while completing their WebCT Trainer Certification program. As a result of this training, members of the TMB WebCT Certified Trainers group have maintained regular contact where collective brainstorming sessions help members resolve online delivery issues, infrastructure issues, and technological issues in WebCT delivered courses. In addition, this cohort has exchanged networking information about job possibilities, further education, and ongoing training with WebCT. The TMB group of trainers has continued to grow personally and professionally despite local and occupation and believe it is important to share the aspects of the certification process that encouraged this group to maintain a community long after the certification process was complete. Additionally, we believe that our shared experiences can aid certified trainers, new and old, in offering a “village” in the larger WebCT community in which they can become a valued member.

Throughout the session one of the TMB Certified Trainers will act as session moderator providing ample opportunity for both the audience and TMB trainers to exchange insights and ideas. The round table discussion will include an overview of the WebCT Certified Trainer program; a discussion on the certification process and the personal experiences of the TMB group of trainers; discussions related to the benefits they realized from becoming a WebCT Certified Trainer; and encouraging audience members to recognize these benefits as tangible goals in their own work environment. At the end of the round table discussion it is our hope that audience members will have gained knowledge of and about the WebCT Certified Trainer program; recognized the benefits of becoming a WebCT certified Trainer; and recognized the value in being a member of the WebCT Certified Trainer community.
