F-8: FlashMX Presentations of Online Film Scenes and eExercises
Detailed Description:Multimedia technologies give WebCT course designers wide latitude in varying the presentation of their course content. By integrating FlashMX presentations in a Film course, instructors can show a film scene in WebCT along with a scene description, scene context within the film, and discussion questions. eExercises (on-line experiential exercises) can also be used to present self-assessments to individual students or virtual teams. See examples of these techniques and learn how to incorporate them in your own courses.
Presentation Format:Showcase
Topic:Enabling learning: Effective instructional practices and student support models
Target Audience:Course Designers, Faculty and Other Instructors, Senior Administrators
Appropriate Audience Level:Beginning or new users of WebCT, Experienced WebCT users
Abstract Text:Multi-media technologies let WebCT course designers vary the content presentation of their courses. On-line film scenes allow the inclusion in a course of film scenes to enliven the presentation of abstract concepts. Licensed film scenes for on-line use exist for organizational behavior, management, strategic management, human resource management, and marketing courses. An integrated FlashMX presentation of the scene includes a film plot description, scene description, the context of the scene within the film, and discussion questions. The film scene starts within a window that becomes a full-screen presentation.

eExercises (on-line experiential exercises) use Web-based technology to present either self-assessments or situations such as ethical dilemmas to individual students or virtual teams. The on-line presentation simulates the live classroom experience of traditional experiential learning approaches. An integrated FlashMX presentation shows the exercise, including completion instructions. The student or team completes the exercise and submits it for processing by a forms processor. Completed exercises go by e-mail to an instructor specified receiving point.
