Abstract Text:Web-enhanced courses are increasingly popular for providing rich learning experiences and greater flexibility in achieving course outcomes. As technology emerges as an adjunct to traditional teaching methodologies, educators are compelled to determine to what extent students are able to meet course objectives when technology is used to enhance the classroom experience.

Faculty teaching web-enhanced courses often evaluate several models for online course delivery before selecting one for their course. For this showcase, the Introduction, Connect, Apply, Reflect, and Extend system (ICARE), developed by staff and faculty at San Diego State University (1997), will be presented one possible means for structuring and organizing course content. Using this system, learning modules are structured to provide clarity to instructional goals and activities in a pedagogically sound way. Components of the ICARE format used in web-enhanced courses will be examined during this session.
